Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers.

Position Summary:

The IT Infrastructure Manager will work to coordinate efforts and provide technical support and direction to staff in Rainforest Alliance domestic and international offices to ensure networks, computers, servers, telephony systems and other IT devices and applications function optimally and provide the foundation for scalable Rainforest Alliance organizational growth. S/he will ensure that IT infrastructure solutions employed by the Rainforest Alliance are conducted in a coordinated fashion with other organizational IT efforts. S/he is a key component of Rainforest Alliance’s move to a cloud based infrastructure. This position will require expertise in managing a portfolio of cloud services, managing subscribers, brokering agreements with cloud providers, and intervening when problems arise. This position will require strong knowledge of infrastructure systems and benefits/detriments of potential cloud solutions. S/he will play a critical role in research, recommendation, selection and consolidation of future cloud providers and be instrumental in successfully migrating current premise based solutions to cloud based environments. S/he will perform technical tasks on new projects and initiatives as directed by the Director, Global IT and US Facilities and may be assigned to directly manage projects. S/he will also provide continuous user training to staff for Rainforest Alliance infrastructure systems and will ensure that Rainforest Alliance IT systems are well maintained, secure and that staff have access to the training and technology needed to support Rainforest Alliance’s mission.

 

Responsibilities:

Infrastructure

  • ·   Provide direction and support for Rainforest Alliance office sites and country site managers as needed;
  • ·   Coordinate with consultants on agreement scope of work and subsequent deliverables;
  • ·   Provide input for planning and implementation to support future Rainforest Alliance technology growth plans including pc hardware, network, telephone and broadband selection choices; and
  • ·   Coordinate relationship(s) with regional computer and network support provider(s).

Strategy and Planning

  • Participate in the development and implementation of all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision;
  • Conduct research as directed and provide recommendations on potential technology solutions in support of organizational efforts, and work with stakeholders to define business and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues;
  • Assist with financial aspects of the IT department, including purchasing, budgeting, and budget review;
  • Benchmark, analyze, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT infrastructure and IT systems; and
  • Seek out new and innovative solutions and keep current with the latest technologies.

Systems Administration and End-User Support

  • Provide systems administration support for Rainforest Alliance systems;
  • Oversee management and liaise with cloud providers, third-party support and equipment vendors;
  • Practice asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment;
  • As needed, install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end-user workstations and related hardware and software in order to minimize downtime and maximize delivery;
  • Assess the need for an implement performance upgrades to workstations and servers; and
  • Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes.

 

Qualifications:

  • ·   Bachelor’s degree required in Information Systems or Computer Engineering or related degree;
  • ·   5-7 years experience in a professional work environment;
  • ·   Project management experience;
  • ·   Experience working with end users and system developers to identify system needs and experience conducting system and report design preferred;
  • ·   Demonstrated experience managing third party support vendors;
  • ·   Experience managing relationships with cloud providers;
  • ·   Expert level technical knowledge of current protocols and standards for operating systems, networking and telephony, including Windows Server 2003 and 2008, Windows XP and Windows 7;
  • ·   Strong experience with mobile device technology and solutions;
  • ·   Demonstrated expert level experience with Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010 desktop environment;
  • ·   Experience in providing hands-on IT customer support;
  • ·   Exceptional communication, motivation, presentation and training skills;
  • ·   Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • ·   Bilingual English/Spanish language skills;
  • ·   Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 15 percent; and
  • ·   Ability to work in a multicultural, diverse, and highly performance-driven environment.
