IT Support Assistant 

 Work Schedule: Part time (approx. 20 hours per week) Monday-Friday

REMSA Inc. (http://www.remsainc.com) is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and results oriented IT Support Assistant to fill an immediate opening in the Newport News, VA area.  The incumbent must be familiar with Dell servers as well as Windows, Microsoft operating systems, and a variety of utility and security software.  

 JOB DESCRIPTION:The incumbent will serve in an office support role in the operation and upkeep of a network consisting of several desk and laptop PCs and associated servers in order to ensure proper functioning.  Monitoring and acting on necessary security and software updates essential to the assurance that the system is operating within the guidelines set forth for Security Compliance is of top priority. Knowledge of network maintenance and a proactive approach is required.  The ability to troubleshoot and offer assistance to team members for malfunctioning systems is also required. Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:

·               Provide technical support in set up and initiation of new equipment, including booting operations

·               Monitor and install software and security updates as required by schedule set forth under the Security Compliance protocol    ·               Manage the operation of 7 PCs (5 desktops & 2 laptops) including data backup, and troubleshooting and repair of systems and peripherals

·               Maintain Dell servers (Power Edge 1950 & 2950, Power Vault 1327) including performing data back up, file management, and performing routine updates

·               Resolve problems as they arise pertaining to performance of computer systems, including minor mechanical problems as well as problems with software & utility programs and network systems

·               Complete technical reports logging activities and progress      

·               Communicate with Management and Staff as far as necessary actions and schedule of activities 

REQUIREMENTS:Must be able to pass a background screening in order to receive security clearance due to the sensitive nature of information that you will have access to.

Must be a U.S. citizen or alien legally eligible to work in the US.

·               Education: Associate’s Degree or certificate from an accredited program in IT related field. Relevant experience can substitute for education.               

 ·               Skills: 2 years of experience working with hardware & software in a support role. Detailed knowledge of general purpose computer equipment, especially Dell Servers is required.

·               Knowledge of software applications including Microsoft Office Suite, Window Operating Systems (XP, 2000 and beyond), McAfee Viruscan 7.x, Windows Updates, Adobe Suite, and Norton Utilities are a must.

·               Additional experience with Lotus Notes, Thunderbird, call tracking systems, and imagining systems are desired.

 ·               The ability to work effectively in both a team environment and independently        

 ·               Basic knowledge of networking is required. Previous experience with network systems and communication is preferred.           ·               Knowledge of computer programming                                

·               Working knowledge of standard computer operating procedures, rules, and methods to operate equipment used to identify and resolve recurring kinds of operating problems is required.

·               Ability to use problem solving skills and critical thinking to produce desired outcomes

·               Technical knowledge of both computer hardware and software applications

·               Ability to follow established guidelines and operate within them. 

·               Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and oral  

·               Excellent time management & multi-tasking abilities

·               Professional appearance and demeanor                

·               Knowledge of specialized software applications such as: Arcview, ArcGIS, VIREX, PCMCLAN, DAVE, .Plans, DiskWarrior, and TechTools Pro is preferred                                

BENEFITS: This is a Part Time position, with salary based on qualifications and experience.  Workload is estimated to require 2-3 days per week.
