Vestas Technology R&D also includes research offices in the US (Texas, Massachusetts, and Colorado), in Singapore, in the UK (Isle of Wight and Leatherhead), in India (Chennai) and in China (Beijing).
 
IPR DEPARTMENT:
 
The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Department is responsible for patent activities within the Vestas group.  This includes transforming inventions into relevant patent protection, handling of third party rights, advising on IPR related issues and participating in contract negotiations related to IPR issues.
 
The department operates on a worldwide scale with a presence in China, Denmark, Singapore, UK and the US. The department is managed from Aarhus, Denmark and is part of the Vestas Technology R&D organization.
 
The Electrical and Control team consists of 7 highly motivated and well-qualified patent professionals, including EPAs, a Singaporean qualified patent agent and US patent attorneys. Team members are located in Singapore, Denmark, UK and the US, and they will report directly to the Manager of the Electrical and Control team.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS: 
 
The team handles patent related issues linked to:
  • Electrical turbine technology e.g. the generator
  • Applied control strategies either on turbine or plant level
  • Various software tools
 Typical tasks handled by the team are:
  • Drafting patent applications in close cooperation with R&D staff
  • Reviewing drafts prepared by external counsel
  • Handling of third party rights
  • Being IPR responsible for products or technology projects
  • Participation in oppositions
  • Participation in IPR related negotiations e.g. linked to R&D cooperation with Universities
  • Review of marketing material
 As manager of the team you will responsible for:
  • Ensuring that the tasks handled by the team are handled professionally and in accordance with internal procedures
  • Prioritization and assignment of tasks handled by the team
  • Management and professional development of your team
  • Contributing to the on-going improvement of operating procedures
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum Bachelor Degree with a significant content of control theory and/or electrical engineering
  • European Patent Attorney or having a corresponding qualification is required 
  • 7+ years patent related experience from private practice or industry 
  • 5+ years related Managerial experience
  • Previous experience working with multicultural organizations
  • Ability to understand working principles of new technology
  • Fluent in English. Knowledge of other languages (like German, French, Spanish or Chinese) is preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Depending on location the travel activity is estimated to be between 10 to 20 % of the time.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
 
The IPR Manager, Electrical and Control reports to the vice president of the IPR Department.
 
WORK LOCATION:
 
It is preferred that the candidate is located in Aarhus or Copenhagen, Denmark, but the Isle of Wight, UK is also a possible location.
