Description

Global Generation is looking for an Intern

Are you interested in working with an innovative sustainability charity to help young people play a part in creating a sustainable future?

Global Generation is a charity based in King’s Cross that works with young people to create positive change within themselves, in their communities, and for the planet. We aim to build ‘common ground’ in the King’s Cross regeneration site by bringing together local young people with local businesses and organisations. Together we have ‘greened’ the King’s Cross area by growing food in skips in the heart of the redevelopment site and on the top of office buildings, and by keeping bees and building a community of ‘doers’ in the local area.

The Intern’s role will be multi-dimensional, but can be broadly split into two parts. The first will consist of practical project assistance and delivery, namely supporting Global Generation’s staff to deliver workshops to young people and adults.

The second part of the Intern’s role will be administrative support to assist in the running of Global Generation’s programmes (workshops, corporate events, volunteer days, youth programmes). Office-based responsibilities will include general administration and research, documenting Global Generation’s work (via photography, video, gathering, typing up quotes and creative writing) and presenting it through website articles and other means. There will also be the option to join us on one of our camping trips to Pertwood Organic Farm in Wiltshire, where young people living in London get the opportunity to experience life in the countryside.

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Share Global Generation’s ethos

  • Be enthusiastic about working with young people and being outdoors

  • Be interested in teaching young people about sustainability through both practical and value-based activities

  • Be willing to turn their hand to basic kitchen tasks linked to our cafe

  • Be interested in urban gardening

  • Be willing to undertake practical and administrative work

  • Be open to learning new skills such as carpentry and woodwork

  • Be flexible, work independently and in a team, and have a positive attitude

  • Be willing to help out wherever needed.

Time Commitment: Ideally you will be happy to work with us three days per week (Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays) for a minimum of three months and up to six months.

Expenses: We will pay you £10 per day to cover your travel expenses and we will always give you a home cooked lunch to have with the rest of the team

Start Date: Wednesday 12th February

How to Apply: Please email your CV and a cover letter of no more than one side of A4 to jobs@globalgeneration.org.uk by 9am on Thursday 30th January. The cover letter should outline why you are interested in and suited to the role of Intern at Global Generation. Interviews will be held on Wednesday 5th February.
