This is an unpaid position although reasonable lunch and travel expenses will be reimbursed. On Saturday 26 March, Earth Hour 2011 became the biggest global Earth Hour ever. A record 134 countries and territories took part and millions of people from around the world came together to show they care about tackling climate change and protecting the natural world. In 2012, WWF’s Earth Hour will be held on Saturday 31 March at 8.30pm and WWF-UK is looking to build on this success and further our reach across the UK. We’re looking for interns to help support the Earth Hour 2012 UK campaign from the planning stages through to evaluation. You will be working as part of a team to maximise awareness, engagement and influence with key audiences, including businesses, organisations and landmarks. Working across WWF-UK, you will be expected on a daily basis to adapt as the needs of the project change. You will be responsible for providing project support which may include crucial administrative support, audience outreach, assisting with publicity / PR activities, copy-writing, liaising with external agencies, event planning and providing marketing support (including online and social media). It is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on an exciting, high-profile global initiative for a leading conservation organisation. It is essential that you possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work to tight deadlines and have a flexible approach to problem solving. Familiarity with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Excel & Word) will ensure that you hit the ground running! Previous communications or fundraising experience would be advantageous but not essential. An understanding of climate change and empathy towards environmental issues is desirable.
