Description |
We are currently seeking a Protected Areas (World Heritage Library) Intern to assist with the downsizing of the Centre's expansive World Heritage Library.
UNEP-WCMC works closely with IUCN – International Union for Conservation of Union – on the issue of natural World Heritage. Every year its Protected Areas Programme produces an annual comparative analysis for nominations under biodiversity criteria in order to support the IUCN World Heritage panel, where recommendations are made for or against inscription. The collection of World Heritage books, reports and maps stay at the heart of the Centre’s capacity to deliver high impact work. Over four decades, volumes of nominations dossier have arrived and since been archived in the library. Following a plan to re-develop the library space, there is now a need to catalogue and remove all items that have been digitised, while preserving those that have not. This is to ensure the retention of memory and knowledge (especially that of the early years of the World Heritage Convention). Working closely with our GIS Anaylst, this placement enables you to work within a conservation organisation where you will experience how the strategy, structure, systems and culture contribute to the achievement of our mission. You will gain an understanding of the research needs of biodiversity scientists and the opportunity to develop your skills of working with processes and procedures, particularly in a library context. As the Protected Areas (World Heritage Library) Intern, you will have a good eye for detail and strong communication skills as you catalogue all World Heritage materials (books, reports, maps and other media) in the WCMC library and liaise with IUCN headquarters to identify duplicate items. We are looking for an Intern to start as soon as possible for 6 weeks. If you are interested in this placement, please submit a CV and covering letter through the link below by 3 February 2016. Please note that no application form is required for this application.
Please note that this is not a UN post. |
