Description

Transparency International (TI) is the leading global non-governmental and not-for-profit organisation devoted to combating corruption. Its mission is to bring about change towards a world free of corruption. TI currently has more than 90 National Chapters across the world, and its International Secretariat is based in Berlin, Germany.

TI does not investigate or expose individual cases of corruption but advocates for reform by focusing on systemic improvement and by building coalitions with other anti-corruption stakeholders, including governments, the private sector and civil society organisations.

Vision:

TI’s advocacy is defined as “Critical but constructive engagement with all stakeholders (aiming to include local communities) focusing on a process of change.” There are three broad goals for this work:

  • EXTERNAL to TI-S - Advocating to strategically influence key stakeholders at the international, regional and national level in the fight against corruption. The prime vehicles for this will be the TI Global Campaign, and global, collaborative advocacy efforts to address climate governance and corruption risks in relation to climate financing for mitigation and adaptation initiatives.
  • INTERNAL to TI-S - Facilitating the development of internal TI-S strategies, organizational partnerships and resources (internal understanding and skills supported by materials and training) to create culture change within TI towards an advocacy orientation. A weighted focus concerns capacity development on climate governance issues.
  • BROADER TI MOVEMENT - Building a network of individuals with the capacity to plan, implement and monitor advocacy and climate governance among TI National Chapters and local stakeholders. This includes training in Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific in workshops conducted on specific anti-corruption projects and developing a climate governance “community of practice” to enable and facilitate exchange of knowledge and expertise to support for advocacy initiatives and actions.
