Ecos Technical Services

The Technical Services team is focused on providing engineering support and solutions to our utility and business clients. This team has a summer internship opportunity available for an Energy Engineer/Energy Auditor.

Internship Description

The internship will involve working under the mentorship of the team’s senior engineers on various client and internal projects. This will not be a single project for the duration of the employment, rather it will involve providing support of on-going projects the team is already engaged in and new projects that arrive throughout the time period. It is expected that the work will likely include: client energy analysis (qualitative and quantitative analysis of facility equipment and business practices), business financial analysis (as related to energy or sustainability projects or actions), research and recommendations on existing and new equipment, report generation and review, site data collection (equipment logging) and observations, process development and documentation. There is potential for a limited amount of travel (potentially outside of the local area) to visit clients sites. Projects will be a mix of utility funded energy efficiency incentive programs and direct business consultation and analysis.

Successful candidates will be expected to develop a report and presentation summarizing their experience which will be presented to a panel of Ecos managers at the end of the internship. Participants will have opportunities to engage with Ecos staff that are working on other client projects to provide a broader perspective of the industry and various career opportunities.

Role Competencies

The ideal candidate is an engineering student in mechanical, industrial or electrical engineering with strong interest in energy efficiency. Other candidates with directly related experience in energy efficiency or sustainability will also be considered. Candidates should have a strong understanding of basic project financial analysis such as calculating and evaluating ROI and NPV. Candidates should have solid understanding of engineering fundamentals such as system mass and energy balance analysis, heat transfer, pump and fan affinity laws, and electrical power calculation. Basic understanding of statistics and regression analysis is desired. Ideal candidates will have class project or work experience in site energy auditing and energy efficiency evaluation. Candidates are expected to have excellent skills in using Microsoft Office software including WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, and OUTLOOK. Candidates should be able to read and evaluate plan drawings and typical facility equipment specifications. Candidates should demonstrate strong personal work habits, such as ability to set and meet schedule commitments, professional phone and email communication skills, and manage multiple in-process tasks simultaneously.

Ideal candidates should demonstrate a drive for high quality work and high customer satisfaction. Candidates should want to work in a dynamic, fast pace, entrepreneurial, “Green” environment that is dedicated to our clients and helping to make a world of difference.
