PJ/SDU’s Work on climate change is rapidly growing as the EIB continues to internalize climate change issues into its work. In particular, there is a need to strengthen PJ’s support to mainstreaming climate risk management and adaptation into operations. This will require a gradual approach based on pilot projects, as well as on raising awareness and providing training to PJ experts and staff in general. Eventually, a user- and project- friendly routine climate risk management system will be established. The objective of the traineeship would be two fold: (a) supporting PJ/SDU’s growing work on facilitating the mainstreaming of adaptation in operations and (b) provide the trainee with hands-on experience on the activities of an MFI in the field of climate change and, in particular, adaptation. While the impact of climate change will be felt on a global scale, scientists agree that these impacts will be stronger on the Mediterranean basin countries. While the main focus of his/her work will be on FEMIP countries, the trainee’s work will extend to other countries and regions as well. In concrete, the trainee will be expected to research and compile quantitative and other background information on adaptation to be used in information, training and other material in support of mainstreaming; draft such material; provide further support in the field of adaptation as necessary and appropriate. A second important assignment will be reviewing the climate change website, making proposals for its improvement, and drafting content to be posted. The Internship Programme is open to students who are nationals of the Mediterranean partner countries (Algeria, Egypt, Gaza/West Bank, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey). The goal of the Programme is to offer successful candidates an opportunity to improve their skills as well as the experience of working in an international multicultural environment. |
