The ICCT office in San Francisco seeks a highly self-motivated, enthusiastic individual to contribute primarily to research projects on electric vehicle technology and policies to promote vehicle electrification in China. The position will also have the opportunity to contribute to vehicle emission big-data analysis and other tasks as the need arises. Representative work can be seen at these links to the ICCT’s electric vehicle and compliance and enforcement program webpages. The length of the internship is negotiable, from 3 to 9 months, and is also depends on the individual’s legal working permit.

Potential Responsibilities

  • Collect, compile, and clean up datasets of advanced electric technologies in China and globally, with a focus on the heavy commercial vehicle sector
  • Collect and summarize information on electric vehicle policies, local pilot programs, manufacturer R&D and production commitments, with a focus on heavy truck sector, in China and globally;
  • Support to quantify energy-saving, emission-reduction, and cost implications of various electric vehicle technologies
  • Support to quantify impact of the existing policies to electric truck end-users
  • Support to analyze best practices in promoting electric technologies in the heavy truck sector;
  • Facilitate communication and support to develop new relations with stakeholders (industry, policy makers etc.)
  • Support data cleaning and analysis of large vehicle emission datasets such as vehicle emission remote sensing data
  • Create info-graphs, write short blogs and contribute to report writing
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Legal status and permit in the U.S.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese, strong ability in spoken and written English
  • Bachelor's degree (Master’s degree preferred) in engineering, environmental science or policies, economics or statistics, or related disciplines, or comparable work experience
  • Excellent and demonstrated quantitative, analytical, and research skills
  • Excellent programming skills with Advanced Excel, Python/R/Matlab and interest in learning new software tools
  • Demonstrated interest in vehicle technology, climate change, air quality, energy, environment, public health, or related topics; familiarity with environmental and energy challenges in the transportation sector preferred

Compensation and benefits

You are expected to work part-time or full-time (no less than 30 hours per week) for about 3-9 months. Monthly salary will depend on experience. Benefit packages are not provided for internship positions. Occasional travels including international travels to China may be needed.
