Green America (www.greenamerica.org) is a nonprofit, membership organization whose mission is to harness economic power – the strength of consumers, investors, businesses, and the marketplace – to create a socially just and environmentally sustainable society.

Our programs team has an exciting opportunity available for someone to support two of our most popular campaigns: Fair Trade and GMO Inside.

For more than five years our Fair Trade campaign has worked to educate individuals about fair trade and labor issues associated with the product we consume, help them find more responsible choices, and help them take action to improve the practices of some of the most irresponsible industries.  Most recently we have focused on the cocoa sector, leading the “Raise the Bar, Hershey!” campaign.

Our GMO Inside campaign launched in November 2012 and has been rapidly growing to educate more and more people about GMOs and pressure the companies with the worst GMOs record to remove GMOs from their products.

We are seeking a student (undergrad or graduate level) with strong research and writing skills.  Experience with social media platforms is also a plus.  Ideally this candidate will have a strong interest in sustainability issues, especially relating to Fair trade, food, and GMOs.

An ideal candidate will:

  • Be interested in and active on Fair Trade and/or GMO issues
  • Have strong internet research skills
  • Have strong writing skills and the ability to synthesis complicated issues into informative newsletters, blog posts, or Facebook posts
  • Have some familiarity with WordPress, or interest to learn
  • Be comfortable reaching out to allies and members of the media via phone or email
  • Be able to work independently and take initiative

To apply:
Send your resume and a cover letter to Elizabeth O’Connell at
eoconnell@greenamerica.org.  In your cover letter please include your interest in or experience with Fair Trade and/or GMO Issues.

No calls please.

Due the volume of applications we receive, we will not respond to every application we receive. If we wish to contact you for an interview you will hear from us by phone or email.
