The candidate will support a variety of tasks related to market and policy research in NREL’s Strategic Energy Analysis Center. The successful candidate will have strong research and writing skills.
Possible key projects include: 1) Utility curtailment of renewable energy generators • Conduct research and compile information on utility or grid operator practices for curtailing renewable energy generators domestically and internationally. • Assist in surveying utilities and grid operators to understand curtailment practices. • Assist in preparing report on curtailment and other issues related to integrating high penetrations of renewables on the grid.
2) Support preparation of project development and project financing training for Tribal nations • Help develop, prepare and execute two trainings in summery 2013 for Tribal champions on how to develop small to large-scale renewable energy projects • Support will include gathering project development and financing tools, information and websites, preparing PowerPoint slides and dealing with conference logistics • Support creation of detailed worksheets that walk through specific hypothetical examples of projects, and other fun exercises to reinforce training concepts
3) Utility Solar Business Model support • Working with a cross cutting team, help interview and analyze utility business/process information about how they make generation supply decisions • Working with an external team, provide original research and analysis to support identification and exploration of new utility business models for solar, particularly distributed solar • Write up memos and white papers to explain research and analysis results; may include writing sections of an NREL technical report
