A student internship is available in the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL’s) Strategic Energy Analysis Center (SEAC). NREL is the nation’s primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The intern will provide analysis to support a global land-use change modeling project in the Energy Forecasting & Modeling Group. This model is being developed to gain insights around the drivers and the magnitude of global land use change in response to biofuel production in the US and certain renewable fuel policies. The model uses a system dynamics framework, built on the STELLA software platform, to represent the dynamic interactions of the major systems that comprise global food consumption/production/trade/population growth/GDP and the effects of these on global allocation of land. 

We have an immediate opening for a summer student in our Golden, Colorado office. The position would full time (40 hours/week) during the summer.
The intern will assist with a variety of efforts including data collection, data cleansing, statistical analysis, database management, model building, model validation and analysis.
Must be enrolled as a full-time student.

Graduate students enrolled in a minimum of nine credit hours.

Undergraduate students enrolled in a minimum of twelve credit hours.

Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
(1) General research skills, including locating and reconciling information from disparate sources and bibliographic reference management. 

(2) Experience developing and documenting data sets. 

(3) Familiarity with exploratory data analysis or with presenting data graphically.
(1) Knowledge of energy resource issues or databases. 

(2) Familiarity with modeling, simulation, and analysis. 

(3) Experience using relational databases (SQL) or the resource description framework (RDF). 

(4) Experience with a programming or scripting language.
