There are two student internships available at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) Strategic Energy Analysis Center in Golden, Colorado. NREL is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.

The position will support renewable energy policy, market, and financial assessments through data collection, literature reviews, industry interviews, writing, spreadsheet analysis and System Advisor Model analysis. 

The intern will directly support the dissemination and production of clean energy finance analysis using the financeRE.nrel.gov as a platform. Duties may include: researching renewable energy finance resources and uploading into our website database using Drupal; and contributing to website maintenance, enhancements, and marketing efforts. 

The intern will also work with project mentors to process and market results from a renewable energy finance questionnaire to renewable energy financing industry professionals. Understanding project cash flows and RE project proformas, tax law, federal and state incentives is a plus.

One or both positions may also (1) provide financial evaluation of tax incentives and other financial mechanisms designed to promote renewable energy, (2) research, write, and edit original content (Market Insight articles and brief analyses of up to 12 pages) on renewable energy finance models, investment trends, incentives, and policies; and (3) potentially assist in the economic evaluation of alternative transportation investment in California.
Using web research skills, identify, analyze and upload renewable energy finance resources (reports, webinars, etc.), to the financeRE.nrel.gov website. Identify and help pursue new opportunities for cross-posting financeRE blogs and other enhanced marketing efforts. Research and author original content blogs, and potentially assist with other research and writing efforts (i.e., featured articles/technical reports) depending on level of experience.

Run Excel spreadsheet models and the NREL System Advisor Model to perform quantitative analysis of RE projects and RE project financing. Write up analysis results in a clear and concise manner. Contribute research to team member efforts, on solar, wind and geothermal project financing analysis.
Must be enrolled as a full-time student.

Graduate students enrolled in a minimum of nine credit hours.

Undergraduate students enrolled in a minimum of twelve credit hours.

Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, engineering or related field, as well as a being a Masters candidate in economics, finance, engineering, business administration or a related field. 

A writing sample is required. Proof of quantitative skills is required.
Excellent communication and analytical skills, experience in project financing, as well as some understanding of renewable energy technologies and energy issues a plus. Knowledge of Drupal/website experience ideal. Level of duties can vary according to education and experience of candidate. Prefer an intern who can commit to 6+ months.
