A law student internship position is available from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) Strategic Energy Analysis Center’s Technology Systems & Sustainability group in our Golden, Colorado office. NREL is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The immediate openings are to assist energy analysts in developing state- and county-level regulatory roadmaps for geothermal permitting for the Western U.S. The position is part-time (10-20 hours per week) during the spring semester and full time (40 hours per week) during the summer or as class schedule allows. Duties include development of regulatory flowcharts and supporting text and timeline documents, and analysis of incorporation of these flowcharts with federal regulations.
Work with staff in the Technology Systems & Sustainability Group to create high quality, instructional, and detail-oriented flowcharts of the regulatory process. Typical tasks may include: researching regulations (both statutory and administrative) related to geothermal permitting, developing detailed flow charts for developers and supporting textual documents, identifying timelines for processes, consulting with and interviewing state regulatory agency personnel.
