There are two student internships available in the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) National Bioenergy Center, in Golden, Colorado. NREL is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. We have an immediate opening for a part-time (10-25 hours per week) undergraduate student or graduate internship in our Golden, Colorado office.
The NREL National Bioenergy Center group is conducting research in the field of lignin deconstruction and valorization. The intern will assist in the synthesis, characterization, and purification of lignin model compounds. This is an excellent opportunity for a student who desires to obtain relevant laboratory experience in preparation for graduate school or a career in chemical industry.
Must be enrolled as a full-time student.

Graduate students enrolled in a minimum of nine credit hours.

Undergraduate students enrolled in a minimum of twelve credit hours.

Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
Ability to conduct laboratory experiments, sometimes with minimal supervision, with the utmost regard to safety is required. Familiarity with relevant general synthetic, spectroscopic, and chromatographic techniques, including those applicable to the handling of air- and moisture-sensitive materials is desirable but not required.
An undergraduate/graduate student in chemistry with a desire to work in a laboratory setting and gain experience in the synthesis, characterization, and purification of complex organic and organometallic molecules.
