There are two Student Internship positions available in the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) National Bioenergy Center. NREL is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The intern will be supporting research and development (R&D) activities within the National Bioenergy Center by performing compositional analyses on diverse biomass samples.
Responsibilities will be to assist in the preparation of biomass samples for compositional analysis using basic wet chemistry techniques (drying, weighing, titrating), and the use of a variety of analytical instruments including high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. Clear record keeping with special attention to data traceability, unexpected observations and errors in procedures is necessary.
Must be enrolled as a full-time student.

Graduate students enrolled in a minimum of nine credit hours.

Undergraduate students enrolled in a minimum of twelve credit hours.

Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
Ability to perform all work in accordance with NREL's high safety standards. Basic computer skills (especially Microsoft Excel) are required. Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork skills, and a strong work ethic are a must.This position will be 25 hours during the school year and 40 hours during the summer.
An undergraduate student with demonstrated experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory, including operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation and data reduction. Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision. Previousexperience with biomass analysis strongly preferred.
