Passionate about working with rural communities? Knowlegeable about how rural communities make a living? Excited to contribute to the conservation of a globally important biodiversity hotspot?

The Gola Rainforest Programme is an exciting long-term initiative supporting the management of the critical landscape in Sierra Leone which is a global priority for biodiversity conservation. The RSPB is seeking a dynamic Technical Advisor to deliver the objectives of the REDD Project's Livelihood components, delivering direct benefits to 122 Forest Edge Communities. You will have experience in agriculture, community engagement, co-management, with particularly strong skills in implementing workplans and monitoring and evaluation. You will have a strong interest in natural resources management, community-based forestry, evidence-based interventions and capacity building.

 

Main Duties are:

1.Assist the relevant departments with planning, delivering, budgeting, reporting and internal evaluations for the effective implementation of the Community Development programme, with a particular focus on agriculture and a consideration for capacity building;

 

2. Assist the programme's Community Development Team with (but not restricted to):

a)collaborating with key stakeholders, including other projects and NGOs to further develop and deliver community development activities that have clear and measurable linkages to the Gola REDD objectives, focusing on the forest edge communities in the leakage belt around the National Park, including agriculture, and community-based forest management.

b)the development and implementation of pilot co-management initiatives with stakeholder communities

 

3.Assist Gola's Administration and Finance Departments with:

a)the provision of efficient logistical support to the Community Development work

b)staff performance evaluations of the Community Development Team

c)development, implementation and monitoring of information management systems dedicated to the Community Development programme;

d)monitoring of operational expenditures specific to the Community Development Programme to ensure alignment with approved departmental budgets;

e)developing key relations with local and national stakeholders dedicated to biodiversity research and monitoring;

f)maintaining good relations among the partners and with other important stakeholders, with a particular focus on local communities 

 

4.Provide capacity building in effective livelihood activities development, monitoring and implementation to the local Birdlife Partner’s staff in Sierra Leone and in Liberia (sister Gola Project in Liberia)
