Description
As the Congo basin Campaign begins its transition towards the distributed campaigning model in mid-2015, Greenpeace Africa with guidance from GPI will take on the role of communications coordination. Overall, the global Congo communications coordinator will be responsible for strategy design and implementation within an engagement framework and in line with the global, campaign and organisational engagement strategies. The coordinator will also act as a bridge between GP Africa and the wider forest cluster, advising on strategy and coordinating with relevant NROs, on outputs and materials. Close links will be with the Congo Communications Manager who remains responsible for all Africa strategy design and outputs – liaising with the Africa engagement team and appropriate departments

The successful candidate must be able to perform these duties but not limited to the following:

Job Specification

  • Guide and enable the forest cluster engagement teams – strategic communications, community engagement, volunteer management and digital mobilisation.
  • Provide an overarching engagement strategy for the forest cluster.
  • Ensure the design, implementation and monitor the appropriate engagement strategies, output plans and advise on tools to foster Greenpeace Africa’s campaigns with a clear focus on organisational and global growth.
  • Ensure the global engagement vision is well translated and executed in the African context
  • Ensure that the cluster (severally and individually) are involved in all the engagement processes and that the various strands of the stories are incorporated into the wider forest narrative
  • Regularly liaise with the international office and other national offices around world
  • Responsible for managing relations to increase Greenpeace Africa’s organisational and campaign profile and organisational visibility through the media
  • Provide overriding engagement guidelines for Greenpeace Africa as well as the global organisation (including spokesperson support)
  • Ensure that major global campaigns receive adequate organisational visibility and support
  • Provide final sign-off and editorial support in the publication of any office
  • In consultation with the Project Team Leaders, NROs, Cluster& appropriate departments (actions, fundraising etc).
  • Working with global communications protocols (‘ways of working’) & available support resources (eg. photo, video, publishing etc.)

Minimum Job Requirements  

  • Post graduate qualifications in  communications, media studies, journalism, development, manage-ment
  • 5 years working experience.
  • Understanding of media landscape in central Africa.  
  • In Depth knowledge about the forestry sector in Central Africa.
  • Experience in the NGO sector will be an added advantage.  

Personal Competencies 

  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skill. 
  • Must be initiative highly motivated / enthusiastic/ energetic.     
  • Good planning and organising skill.
  • Fluency in English and French 
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently
