Fellowship Description

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation offers a great opportunity, funding a fellowship position, and the ICCT looks forward to being a host organization to a qualified candidate.

The International Council on Clean Transportation is an independent nonprofit organization founded to provide first-rate, unbiased research and technical and scientific analysis to environmental regulators. Our mission is to improve the environmental performance and energy efficiency of road, marine, and air transportation, in order to benefit public health and mitigate climate change.

Funding is available for project proposals, which address issues directly relating to climate protection, as well as adaptation to climate change. The research project proposal should be developed independently by the applicant and agreed upon with the host organization for submission to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for the fellowship.

The foundation will pay a stipend amount that reflects the applicant’s academic and professional qualifications, current position and professional experience. The range is between 2,150 EUR – 2,750 EUR per month. In addition to financing the project, the fellowship aims to facilitate and promote the development of long-term contacts and collaborations with colleagues in Germany. Through group program events (introductory seminar, training courses, final meeting) during the fellowship year provided by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, fellows should gain an overview of climate protection and climate-related resource conservation, as well as the important actors in these fields in Germany.

Qualifications

1. First university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent), completed less than 12 years prior to the start of the fellowship (1 March 2015)

2. Extensive professional experience in a leadership role (at least 48 months at the time of application) in the field of climate protection or climate-related resource conservation or a further academic or professional qualification

3. Initial practical experience (at least 12 months at the time of application) through involvement in projects related to climate protection and climate-related resource conservation (possibly already during studies)

4. Leadership potential demonstrated by initial experience in a leadership position and/or appropriate references (see no. 8)

5. A detailed statement by a host in Germany, including a mentoring agreement; details of the proposed project must be discussed with the prospective host prior to application submission

6. Citizenship of a non-European emerging or developing country (see list of countries), which is also the fellow’s habitual abode and place of work

7. Very good knowledge of English and/or German, documented by appropriate language certificates

8. Two expert references by individuals qualified to comment on the candidate’s professional, personal and, if applicable, academic eligibility and his / her leadership potential
