Description

As statutory advisor on nature conservation to the UK Government and the Devolved Administrations, JNCC are looking for an adviser on International Biodiversity based in Peterborough. This is a 2 year fixed term appointment.

The International Advice team provides, amongst other things, advice across the range of multi-lateral environmental agreements (MEAs) to which the UK is Party. The team also advises on European environment issues, legislation and policy, leads on preparing government reports required under European or international obligations and contributes to the production of UK biodiversity indicators.

The United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union (EU) provides an unprecedented opportunity to transform policy affecting the environment in the UK and internationally; this post will play a key role in the work of the team advising on international biodiversity issues over the period of the UK’s exit.

The post holder needs to have a good understanding of the importance of the relationship between scientific research, evidence and policy development.  You will be working closely with officials in the Department for Environment & Rural Affairs (Defra), other UK government departments and the devolved governments and with specialists from across JNCC and the Country Nature Conservation Bodies to develop advice and guidance on a variety of international issues.  Discussion and input from other agencies and stakeholders will also be required. You will need to work with a wide range of specialists and stakeholders to undertake policy analysis and to contribute to developing practical advice in a fast-moving EU Exit policy environment.

For more information about the skills/competencies required for this post, visit our website www.jncc.defra.gov.uk/jobs where you can download the details and the relevant application form and find out more about our work. Alternatively, contact us via recruitment@jncc.gov.uk and we will email the relevant documentation to you.
