The Ecology Action Centre (EAC), established in 1971, is Nova Scotia's most active environmental organization. We have a staff team of 35, more than 300 volunteers, 1,300 members and an annual budget of over $1.5 million. We are seeking a person to join our senior leadership team as Internal Director. The position is four days a week and is a 1 year term position. The position is part of a three person leadership team and reports to the Board of Directors.

Overview of the Position

The role of the Internal Director is to lead the organization in collaboration with the Policy Director and Financial Director. The Internal Director provides coordination amongst and strategic direction to Board, staff and volunteers, oversees human resources, and manages the Centre’s operations. Given the relative autonomy of the EAC’s committees and their projects, the Internal Director’s role is one of internal coordination, with respect to the interests and overall functioning of the Centre. The Internal Director supervises a four-person operations team. S/he is also responsible for facilitating the implementation of EAC’s strategic plan.

Responsibilities

The Internal Director’s overarching role is to foster an organization in which staff, volunteers, and committees can effectively bring about environmental change in Nova Scotia. The Internal Director is responsible for strategic thinking and planning concerning the functioning of the Centre. Highly effective coordination and communication between the three members of the leadership team is required. The role includes the sublime and the mundane. The specific responsibilities fall into these categories:

1.    Internal Communication and Coordination
2.    Human Resources
3.    Operations Team Building and Supervision
4.    Fundraising and Operational Finances
