The Niobrara Valley Preserve (NVP) Intern will assist with preserve maintenance activities including mowing and weed-eating lawns, maintaining hiking trails, fence repair, tree removal, and weed control.  Public relations work, including developing interpretive signs, leading tours, and giving programs may also be required.  The NVP Intern will need to work closely with Conservancy staff, cooperating scientists and volunteers.  The Niobrara Valley Preserve encompasses approximately 56,000 acres along a 25 mile stretch of the Niobrara River in north-central Nebraska.  This short-term (full-time) position will require irregular hours and will include extensive outdoor physical labor under adverse conditions.  The position is supervised by the Niobrara Program Director, does not supervise other staff, but may supervise volunteers.  This position is located in a rural part of north central Nebraska near Johnstown, NE, and will run from May 23, 2011 – August 5, 2011.  The NVP Intern will be required to reside on-site and housing will be provided.
