Description

The intern will work on a project that is addressing how human communities of Sub-Saharan Africa are responding to climate change and how those responses may be impacting biodiversity. Surveys with key informants were conducted in several countries and the intern will be responsible to build a database, and to help the supervisor to conduct analysis with that information. Responses will then be mapped and correlated with observed climate information by a partner organization. The overall goal of the project is to anticipate where certain human responses to climate change may happen in the future and provide alternative solutions for those with negative impacts on biodiversity. Successful applicants are college students (working hours/week can be discussed if applicant successful applicant cannot work 35 hours/week), with interest on climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation, and detail orientated. Knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics, and Geographical Information System (GIS) is a plus. This is a 4-week paid internship.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review approximately 400 surveys (10 questions).
  • Extract key information as guided by supervisor.
  • Build a database with this information.
  • Help with descriptive and inferential statistics.
  • Help to produce graphs and figures.
  • Produce a report with the main results from the information in the database.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal office environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred

  • Knowledge of statistics (correlations, associations, basic statistics).
  • GIS knowledge is a plus.
