EDF is seeking a Marketing & Communications Intern to immediately support the Natural Gas Project. Interested applicants should have knowledge of communications writing and research. A basic knowledge of government and environmental issues is preferred. Reports to Natural Gas Media Director
Overall Function The intern will be responsible for supporting communications staff in EDF’s Natural Gas Program. This work will include tracking media clips, maintaining media lists,developing appropriate content or content ideas for social media channels, compiling media statistics for reporting documents, supporting media outreach, conducting background research on policy issues and other tasks related to the Natural Gas Program’s communications goals.
Key Responsibilities Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Tracking news on oil & gas developments in key states; generating daily clips email
- Regulary updating national and state media lists
- Monitoring traditional and non-traditional media outlets for coverage and opportunities
- Assisting in generating, tracking and posting to the Energy twitter accounts and blogs
- Writing and editing content for EDF’s Energy Exchange blog, newsletters, marketing collateral, reports and other materials as needed
- Conducting policy research
- Coordinating and executing special projects, as assigned
Qualifications
- Strong writing skills required
- Must be well-organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented and proficient in the use of standard office equipment and computer software (i.e. all MS Office applications)
- Thorough knowledge of social media tools, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and WordPress (for blogging purposes)
- Ability to stay organized, meet deadlines, prioritize and maintain a pro-active attitude
- Basic video and photo editing skills and desire to learn new software (preferred)
- Recent university graduates are welcome to apply. Graduate student in communications or business are preferred.
Location EDF Austin Office Term Up to 24 weeks (6 months) Hours This is a full-time internship (up to 35 hours per week). Hours per week and schedule are negotiable to meet the needs of the intern. Compensation The intership stipend is $15 per hour. Additionally, EDF is happy to support any academic credit available to candidates. Interns have access to networking opportunities with EDF experts, national staff and partner organizations during the term of their internship. Interns are not eligible for benefits, including medical benefits or paid time off.
