WRI seeks a highly organized and motivated individual to support its Making the Case for Low-Carbon Development project. The project aims at building the evidence base to influence national debates and accelerate low-carbon development in major emerging economies. The successful applicant will help disseminate the evidence WRI has developed by way of organizing seminars, meetings and workshops. The other element of the work is to promote better communications between China and the U.S. on climate and energy policies. The successful applicant will also help produce outreach materials and communicate policy-relevant data and analysis to a Chinese audience.

 

This is a full-time paid internship, with an aim to hire the successful candidate in early April 2012.

Responsibilities:
  • Support WRI’s preparations for a series of events (meetings, workshops, conferences) on the topic of low-carbon development.
  • Draft and edit working papers, fact sheets, journal articles, blogs, and presentations on issues relevant to the project.
  • Assist in Chinese translation and proofread translated materials to ensure accuracy and readability.
  • Provide research assistance, including reviewing and summarizing reports and studies on low-carbon policies.
  • Support outreach and communication efforts for the project, including by liaising with key partners within governments, international institutions, and NGOs.
  • Provide administrative support, including scheduling meetings, taking notes, and travel planning.
Qualifications:
  • Substantial relevant undergraduate coursework or recently completed degree in environmental policy, international relations, law, public policy, or related field
  • Excellent academic record
  • Strong Chinese language ability is a must
  • Good understanding of the climate and energy discussions in the U.S. and China
  • Experience with events coordination
  • Great attention to detail
  • Ability to work well in a team, manage multiple priorities, take initiative, and deliver under tight deadlines
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office and strong internet research skills
