Description

The International Program of Earthjustice seeks volunteer interns to work in our Oakland office. Earthjustice's International Program uses the power of the law to protect the environment and human health worldwide. We represent public interest and community groups in international tribunals and domestic courts to address global warming; promote and defend the human right of all people to a healthy environment; protect global freshwater resources; prevent international trade and commerce from interfering with sustainable development and environmental protection; and promote public participation in environmental protection in Asia and Latin America.

The intern will assist with projects that we work on in Latin America together with the "Interamerican Association for Environmental Defense" (AIDA) (www.aida-americas.org). We will design projects to accommodate the intern's skills and interests. Projects may include legal and scientific literature research, economic policy analysis, media and publicity work, and translation. The internship offers extensive exposure to the operations of the non-profit legal community and international environmental work. Depending on experience, some administrative work may be required.

This position is available to both students and non-students. Graduate students and professionals with expertise in the specific areas described above, as well as highly qualified undergraduates may apply.  Knowledge of Spanish is extremely helpful.  Although some project-based volunteer opportunities may be available, most applicants should be able to commit at least 15 hours per week. We accept applications and make offers on a rolling basis. In your cover letter, please specify the time period for which you are available.
