Intern, Economics and Climate – Job Description

The ECF has recently launched the Low Carbon Economy Initiative, which is supported by the ECF’s Chief Economist, based in Berlin. Its main objective is to develop a better understanding of the economic dimension of climate change and climate policies. In this sense, the goal is to build a bridge between conventional economics and climate economics, e.g. to analyze the impact of climate policies on competitiveness or to develop economic and statistical tools to better understand the interactions between climate and the economy.

The ECF is therefore offering an internship for six months – possibly extendible to 12 – starting as soon as possible. The selected candidate will be based in Berlin and will work closely and actively with the Chief Economist on a range of tasks:

Content tasks:

  • Support the low carbon economy agenda
  • Research and writing up of regular notes and reports – as needed
  • Data research and statistical treatment
  • Conceptual assistance for workshops etc.
  • Attending events
  • Bring economists and climate experts together

Administrative tasks:

  • Helping with travel bookings
  • Helping with event and meeting organisation
  • Helping with project administration
  • Help in preparation of presentations
  • Budget management support

The ideal candidate should embody the following professional qualifications and attributes:

  • Relevant work experience and academic background in applied economics, macroeconomic empirical research and basic statistics.
  • Good knowledge of the main energy and climate issues.
  • German native speaker level, fluency in English, other foreign languages an asset.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure, take initiative and be a creative problem-solver.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong administrative and computer skills (PowerPoint, Excel).

We offer an intellectually challenging position with great possibilities for professional development and an excellent work atmosphere.

Start date: As soon as possible.

Duration: six months, extendible to 12 for the right candidate.

Compensation: similar to that of internships in European institutions (Commission, Council and Parliament).

Workplace: Berlin (Candidates must be in possession of work permit for Germany in case applicable).

If you are interested, please send a CV and short covering letter to employment@europeanclimate.org as soon as possible. The closing date for receiving applications is 14 June 2015. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
