Our Washington DC office is seeking a summer intern to support our Conservation Strategies Department. This individual may work with both the Center for City Park Excellence staff and Conservation Vision staff. The Center for City Park Excellence acquires and shares knowledge of urban parks and conservation issues and techniques to improve the practice of park planning, design, construction, management, and stewardship. Through Conservation Vision, TPL helps agencies and communities define conservation priorities, identify lands to be protected, and plan networks of conserved land that meet public need.

Responsibilities:

  • Write reports, memos and summaries in support of key program work elements.
  • Prepare graphic and written materials for presentations, our website, and other project related needs.
  • Organize our internal library of scholarly sources.
  • Help design and implement an evaluation protocol for our department's completed projects.
  • Assist in developing agendas, and coordinating meetings and other logistics with agency staff, community groups, partners and outside professionals.
  • Perform other relevant duties, including some administrative tasks, as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Course work or experience in environmental studies, public policy, statistics, marketing, or related area. Bachelor's degree with demonstrated experience preferred.
  • Superior written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong academic research and analytic skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient with computers, graphics and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work under pressure, juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated commitment to parks, open space and land preservation a plus.
  • Ability to use good judgment, take initiative, and make recommendations in resolving problems.

Timing:

Roughly June 1, 2007 - August 14, 2009, with possibility of extension. Start and end dates are flexible.
