Overall Function
Provide communications support to the Senior Communications Manager of the International Climate Program and program staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Monitor news stories from numerous news sources and forward relevant and noteworthy blog posts and articles to staff
- Monitor traditional and non-traditional media outlets for coverage and opportunities
- Maintain electronic files, including media lists press clips, collateral materials
- Work with program staff to draft blog posts on program and policy issues
- Edit and proofread written communications, including press releases, blog posts and web content
- Work with program staff to review, update and draft new content for web pages
- Repurpose current materials for social media distribution
- Assist with basic collateral design
- Coordinate and execute special projects, as assigned
- Maintain databases for media contacts, photos, and documents
- Attend weekly staff meetings
Qualifications
- Undergraduate or Graduate student interested in and passionate about the environment, politics and media Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- must be well-organized, motivated, detail-oriented and take initiative
- Thorough knowledge of new media including blogging, Twitter and Facebook
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface well with all programs/departments in the organization and represent the communications team in a highly professional manner
- Highly proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other software applications
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
- Ability to work in a team setting and have the ability to work independently on projects
- Demonstrate initiative and problem solving skills.
