EDF’s Energy & Climate Program seeks a talented summer intern to support our goal of accelerating the transition to low-carbon energy in the United States. We aim to do this by introducing new electric utility business models that reward investment in efficiency and smart grid deployment, creating innovative finance mechanisms that accelerate investment in clean energy, and leveraging energy efficiency to create new economic opportunities in some of the country’s most economically disadvantaged communities. Overall Function
EDF’s Clean Energy intern plays a critical role in supporting the Manager of EDF’s Utility Initiative and other EDF staff focused on clean energy. Activities will include performing research, modeling and implementation support for core program priorities. The intern will work with energy and corporate partnerships program staff members to research, develop, analyze and contribute to the writing of memoranda, reports, policy briefs, and/or media and communication materials. Our 2013 NC Energy Program Priorities include:
- Electric Utility Business Models – designing new incentive structures that will make energy efficiency and clean energy investments more profitable than traditional, polluting sources like coal-fired power plants.
- On-Bill Repayment – develop and promote a new financing mechanism in North Carolina that enables consumers and businesses to secure low cost energy efficiency loans that can be repaid on their utility bill. See www.edf.org/obr.
- Economic Development – identify and develop opportunities for deploying energy efficiency as a tool to combat high electricity bills in economically disadvantaged communities of North Carolina. This includes analyzing state and federal policies and regulations as they relate to energy efficiency financing and incentives that affect public housing and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
- Other areas of support as needed, including assisting in the research and development of an energy efficiency and sustainability course for undergraduate level students which will be available to students at institutions across the country.
