Description
BirdLife International is looking for an intern to provide support to the BirdLife Africa Partnership Secretariat in the development and implementation of strategies, projects and activities for conservation of vultures in Africa.  
 
Specifically the intern will be required to provide:   
 
1.  Communications and awareness support
    • Support in compilation of information and publication of the monthly vulture bulletin
    • Support in other communications and awareness activities regarding vultures in Africa, including continuously updating and reviving the Africa vulture webpage and extranet page
 
2.  Project management support
    • Support in monitoring and reporting for on-the-ground vulture conservation projects being coordinated by the BirdLife Africa Secretariat, in particular:
      o Egyptian Vulture Conservation Project in Ethiopia and Nigeria
      o Combatting Illegal trade in vultures in Nigeria
      o Integrated anti-poisoning projects in East and Southern Africa 
 
3. Policy and advocacy events support
    • Provide support in the preparation and organisation of major high-level policy events that provide an opportunity for influencing policy and legislation in favour of vulture conservation, as per need
    • Undertake any other duties in support of the vulture conservation work in the BirdLife Africa Partnership
 
Qualification and Requirements: 
    • At least BSc in conservation / natural resource management / related field is essential, but MSc will be an advantage
    • Knowledge of biodiversity conservation essential; ornithological knowledge and interest in raptors, and especially vultures will be an advantage
    • Ability to synthesize scientific information from a wide range of sources into simple credible factsheets
    • Flexibility, willingness to learn and ability to work independently
    • Legally able to work in Kenya
    • Computer literacy in all standard Microsoft Office

Duration: The internship period will be for 6 months
 
Location: The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya. 
 
A taxable stipend of KShs 40,000 per month will be offered to cover basic costs.
