Description

The purpose of the role is to support The Biodiversity Consultancy’s (TBC’s) work with companies in the fashion and jewellery sectors to assess biodiversity impacts, research corporate sustainability approaches including certification, and provide briefings to the TBC team on findings via short reports and presentations.

The successful candidate would gain an understanding of corporate responses to environmental challenges, exposure to client management and project management, and mentorship by TBC staff experienced in corporate sustainability.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, analysis and interpretation of a wide range of sustainability information, including certification standards
  • Support analysis of corporate impacts on nature (qualitative and quantitative research)
  • Benchmark corporate responses to the biodiversity crisis against peer companies and sustainability frameworks
  • Research new sectors, clients and markets
  • Research case studies
  • Write and edit succinct reports, and deliver presentations 
  • Support the development of new proposals
  • Other duties commensurate with the role and the successful candidate’s interests and experience

Essential attributes: 

  • Undergraduate Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Ecology and Conservation, Environmental (ecological) Management, Geography, Biology, Zoology)
  • Familiarity with international biodiversity and sustainability issues, especially in relation to corporate strategies and actions
  • Demonstrable research skills and experience (qualitative and quantitative)
  • Ability to prioritise workload and take a logical and measured approach to complex topics
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently

Desirable attributes:  

  • Field experience related to biodiversity, conservation and/or ecology
  • Experience with application of circular economy principles and/or experience in sustainable water management
  • Experience with science-based target setting and/or other corporate disclosure frameworks such as GRI, TCFD, TNFD, CDP, etc.
  • One year or more of experience working with the following sectors: corporate sustainability, fashion, automotive, food and beverage
  • A Masters’ degree or equivalent post-graduate experience in relevant disciplines 
  • Non-English language skills a bonus

Role details

  • 1-year fixed term employment, full time (with the prospect of converting into a permanent role thereafter)
  • Benefits including holiday and option to join the work pension scheme

  • Ideally based in the Cambridge area or UK (with travel to Cambridge).
