Overview:

The People & Ecosystems Program at the World Resources Institute (WRI) seeks a results-oriented college graduate with excellent research, analytical, and writing skills for a paid internship to support our Farm Bill Targeting Project which seeks to improve the environmental effectiveness of the federal agricultural conservation programs through geographic targeting.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide research assistance to the Team by a) reading and evaluating conservation project proposals and b) conducting mini-research projects needed to fulfill two targeting deliverables by reading peer-reviewed articles, grey literature, and reports by government agencies and NGOs.
  • Prepare short summaries for the Team on research findings, such as (a) existing estimates of the environmental performance of conservation programs, (b) barriers to targeting funds, and (d) evaluations of current targeting efforts in Farm Bill programs.
  • Maintain an electronic reference library.
  • Provide coordination assistance by organizing interviews for WRI staff with key agricultural conservation stakeholders, transcribing the interviews, and summarizing the key points.
  • Coordinate the Water Quality Team’s activities with WRI’s Government, Media, and Online Engagement Teams and with WRI’s sub-contractors. 
  • Provide proof-reading assistance by reviewing and editing research products.
  • Support other activities as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree in environmental policy, science, or economics or relevant agricultural conservation-related field.
  • Familiarity with or working experience on agricultural conservation issues.
  • Very strong research, analysis, and writing skills.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office and internet research.
  • Ability to work well in a team, juggle multiple priorities, and work under tight deadlines.

Salary:  Hourly wage commensurate with qualifications 

Time frame: February through June 2012
