Description

The Internship Programme of the REC:

  • Assists young environmental professionals interested in environmental issues in Central and Eastern Europe as they develop their careers
  • Provides innovative support to REC projects, by involving young professionals with fresh approaches;
  • Improves cooperation between the REC and other organizations; and
  • Extends the REC's network in the region, and beyond.

Key information

  • Those interested should apply for one of the 'current internship opportunities' listed above, following the internship application procedure outlined below.
  • Interns should have a university degree, or be senior students, and come to work on the REC's own projects.
  • Interns are expected to work closely with a tutor (a Project Manager from the REC staff). A tutor will make the decision - in cooperation with their supervisor and the internship project manager - whether or not to take an intern, and will be responsible for supervising their intern.
  • Interns have access to REC resources, including the library, an Internet connection and e-mail, and can take advantage of the REC's contacts in the region.
  • Internships usually last between three and six months.
  • In most cases, the costs of the internship must be fully supported by the sending organization or intern. There may be some exceptional cases in which the REC will bear some of the costs. These will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Terms of reference will be agreed upon by all relevant parties (intern, tutor, internship project manager, and sending organisation when applicable) before an internship is confirmed.
  • An 'internship agreement', including the terms of reference, will be completed and signed shortly after an intern arrives.

Application procedure

A complete application includes:

  • Why are you interested in an internship with the REC?
