Internship Purpose: ClientEarth is seeking an enthusiastic intern to work in our Climate andForest programme. The internship will be at our mainLondon office and you will have the opportunity to be involved in research and analysis of legal and policy matters related to Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+). These include identifying and analyzing international and regional sources of law relevant to the implementation of the REDD+ safeguards. You will have a degree in law, knowledge or experience of REDD+, and desirably you will also have specialization in international environmental law.  While this internship is primarily focussed on legal and policy research to support this project, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to assist in preparing advocacy and policy materials and assist with in-country case studies.

Key responsibilities

-          Assist with legal research of international and regional relevant sources of law,

-          Comparative legal analysis;

-          Assists with legal research of domestic laws, policies and institutions of in-country case studies;

-          Producing briefing notes for staff;

-          Liaising with and assisting climate and forest staff;

Required skills and competencies

-          Strong legal research skills;

-          Excellent written and oral communication skills;

-          Ability to produce high quality outputs;

-          Reliable and committed team member with strong interpersonal skills;

-          Highly creative, organized and pays attention to detail.

Person Specifications

-          Hold a law degree (essential);

-          Some work experience or demonstrable knowledge in REDD+ (essential);

-          Work experience or advance degree in international law/international environmental law (desirable);

-          Positive attitude and a strong commitment to working for the environment (essential);

-          Fluency in English (essential), and working knowledge of either Spanish or Portuguese (desirable).

About the role: We ask that interns commit to a minimum of 3 days per week for at least three months. The maximum duration for internships is six months. In instances where interns are not working full time, they should ideally commit to set days each week.

ClientEarth cover interns’ work-related expenses (travel and lunch) via a contribution of £10 for each day spent in the office.
