Internship Purpose: ClientEarth is seeking an enthusiastic intern to work in our climate and energy programme. You will have a relevant degree in law and outstanding research skills. Experience in policy analysis will be advantageous.

ClientEarth’s Climate and Energy Programme aims to advance the development of law and policy to drive Europe’s transition to a low carbon, efficient and sustainable energy system. We work on strategies to avoid lock-in to damaging high carbon infrastructure, and to promote solutions and action in recognition of Europe’s leadership role in global action on climate change.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to a number of challenging work streams, providing experience in EU climate policies and a chance to support the development of new work on challenging coal power.  

Key responsibilities:

-          Legal research on a range of climate and energy related legislation and case law, (including EU, Member State and international law)

-          Drafting legal briefings;

-          Policy research into climate drivers and their potential climate benefit;

-          Monitoring latest political developments in EU climate policy;

-          Producing briefing notes for staff;

-          Liaising with and assisting the climate and energy team.

Required skills and competencies:

-          Excellent academic credentials in law (and policy if applicable);

-          Ability to take initiate in progressing set tasks; 

-          Strong research skills and attention to detail;

-          Ability to grasp quickly and accurately new and complex concepts;

-          Intellectual curiosity and applied lateral thinking;

-          Ability to take initiate in progressing set tasks; 

-          Excellent written and oral communication skills;

-          Positive attitude and a commitment to working for the environment.

Internship Arrangements: We ask that interns commit to a minimum of 3 days per week for at least three months. The maximum duration for internships is six months. In instances where interns are not working full time, they should ideally commit to set days each week.

ClientEarth cover interns’ work-related expenses (travel and lunch) via a contribution of £10 for each day spent in the office.
