Information Technology Specialist

The Peregrine Fund is looking for a talented and enthusiastic professional to join us as an Information Technology Specialist. Like variety and a challenge? Come work in a dynamic space where you'll be involved in a broad range of roles and technologies, supporting some of the world's leading raptor conservation biologists, at The Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey in Boise, Idaho.

This position is responsible for supporting all types of technology including Windows Server, network hardware, workstations (Windows and Mac), and mobile devices (iOS and Android). This also includes identifying and resolving hardware and software issues. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and troubleshooting abilities. There is ample opportunity to learn and enhance technical knowledge, and to develop and grow the position.

A successful candidate must be a well-organized self-starter with a positive attitude, who works well with limited direct supervision, and can interact professionally with a variety of personalities. The Specialist must be flexible and willing to support multiple platforms, environments and devices without bias, and thrive on learning new things and adapting to change. Assisting staff with a range of technical knowledge to use technology will be a significant part of the job.

This job will be located at the World Center for Birds of Prey in Boise, Idaho. The role will require daily presence at the facilities, and on-call duties during weekends and for staff in other time zones.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

General support

  • Provide technical support for entire organization - locally, other states, and internationally.
  • Document all changes and communicate these to staff as appropriate.
  • Serve as liaison between The Peregrine Fund and technology service providers.
  • Oversee the daily performance of computer systems, to include: troubleshooting problems, providing technical support on-site or via remote communication.
  • Maintain computers, printers, networks, software, and other technology items for The Peregrine Fund. Upgrade, fix problems and schedule external service providers as needed.
  • Test, schedule and deploy software updates to servers and workstations.
  • Update and maintain software and associated licenses, including procurement of commonly used software such as Microsoft Office.

Server, LAN and remote services administration

  • Administer LAN, Windows SBS, and security systems.
  • Manage user accounts for LAN workgroup, SAAS apps, data storage and email systems.
  • Manage all types of networking devices including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless APs.
  • Manage storage systems to ensure high levels of data quality, availability and security.
  • Troubleshoot network performance issues, analyze and resolve problems associated with network infrastructure.
  • Provide guidance for contracted technical service providers when needed.
  • Provide recommendations for the design and purchase of new or upgraded computer hardware or software.
  • Provide systematic inventory and maintenance of equipment based on current and projected use and workloads.
  • Ensure file and system backups are maintained and that security systems are installed and updated.
  • Maintain backups of server, and perform recovery if needed.

Staff training

  • Provide training to staff for email, network, and common office software and systems used by The Peregrine Fund. This includes one-on-one training, group classes, and remote sessions for staff outside Boise.
  • Reach out to employees to learn what they need help with, and provide the necessary assistance.
  • Work with staff to compose manuals and training lessons for software created internally.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Associate degree, or higher, preferred.
  • Fluent English skills, both in writing and speech.
  • Strong understanding of network management. Certifications a plus.
  • Business email systems administration and email client configuration.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability. Diagnose problems and implement solutions.
  • Familiarity with administration of Windows Small Business Server 2011, Exchange, and Google Apps for Work (including Google Mail).
  • Ability to interact professionally with all levels of personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist a variety of personalities, preferences and learning styles.
  • Willingness to learn and adopt new technologies.
  • Ability and willingness to support any operating system or platform (Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, etc).
  • Self-starter, able to organize tasks and work through them with limited direct supervision or instruction.
  • Ability to write technical and operational management documentation.
  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge to non-technical personnel.
  • Occasional extended hours and weekend work.
  • Experience with PCI Compliance is a plus.
  • Familiarity with programming, or an interest to learn it.
