Infographic Designer/Multimedia Producer
Communications Department
Cambridge, MA

Under direction of the deputy director of communications/creative director, serve as an in-house infographic designer, multimedia producer, and project manager. Work collaboratively to design and create data visualizations, slide shows, videos, PowerPoint presentations, graphics, and other visual storytelling products. Serve as project manager for multimedia projects, work closely with program and communications colleagues, and outside vendors, to ensure products are created collaboratively, as well as on message, on brand, and on time.

Responsibilities

Infographic design and multimedia creation (50% of time)

  • As assigned, conceptualize and produce a range of graphic products and assets, including but not limited to infographics and data visualizations, slide shows, videos, visual PowerPoint presentations, collateral for development, and social media memes.
  • Apply visual storytelling skills to multimedia products.
  • Generate scripts, storyboards, and schematics based on campaign initiatives.
  • Employ organizational style guide to ensure products are on brand in design and tone.
  • Work closely with editorial team members on script writing to ensure products are on message.
  • Collaborate with web & engagement team members to ensure multimedia projects engage UCS supporters and/or key issue publics.
  • Track changes in multimedia field, emerging technologies, and test new approaches to ensure organization is on leading edge.

Project management (50% of time)

  • As assigned, project manage all phases of ongoing multimedia products.
  • Follow best practices from UCS project management guide, from start to finish.
  • Hire and supervise external consultants, including graphic designers, slide show producers, and video firms.
  • Identify and pitch opportunities for multimedia products to deputy director/creative director.
  • Serve as active and creative partner in annual program planning.

Qualifications and experience
Position requires at least five years of experience in multimedia content development, especially infographics, and project management. Strong graphic design, writing, and oral communication skills necessary.

Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated ability to translate complex information into engaging, dynamic content for lay audiences.  We’re seeking a creative, collegial team player with exceptional project management skills. Must have the ability to manage multiple projects/deadlines and thrive in a fast paced, quickly evolving environment.

Must have experience in design and video software formats (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as PhotoShop, Illustrator, Premier Pro, Fireworks, or other creative development software). Experience in visual PowerPoint slide design and knowledge of Tableau a plus. Should have understanding of web platforms and multimedia usability on the web. Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript helpful, but not required.

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or equivalent preferred.

At UCS, comparable training and/or experience can be substituted for degrees when appropriate.

 

 

Compensation, Hours and Location: This is a full-time position based in UCS’s Cambridge, MA office. For candidates who meet all position requirements, the salary is in the upper $50Ks.
