Description

Are you inspired by the prospect of joining a fast growth tech business that’s on a mission to tackle climate change by accelerating the transition to sustainable manufacturing?

Manufacture 2030 is a purpose led software company. Our cloud-based product, the Bee, is designed to cut environmental impacts in manufacturing & industrial facilities, helping to accelerate global progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).

We work with some of the world’s biggest companies - including Honda, RB, Toyota, Roche, Asda, Interface - helping them hit ambitious climate goals. We do this by working in their supply chains, collecting baseline environmental data from key suppliers, then using this data to inform insights & suggestions aimed at helping those suppliers implement improvements to reduce environmental impacts.

As Industrial Carbon & Environment Adviser, you will take on a number of key responsibilities within our team:

This role offers an opportunity for you to develop a unique understanding of energy, waste and water efficiencies, and carbon reduction, and how these can be identified and actioned by facilities across the globe.

Some of the initial responsibilities are listed below, but we expect this role will continue to develop as our capability and team grows.

Researching & updating our actionable good practice database:

With the aim of helping businesses across the globe reduce environmental impacts, we have compiled hundreds of actionable good practice templates that can be implemented to improve.

You’ll take responsibility for updating and improving this database. Conducting a mix of desk-based research, and interviews with practitioners & industry experts, to do so. In addition, data being input by our growing customer base can be analysed to further improve the quality of these templates.

For example: If good practice is to install solar panels on the roof of factories – you would help research & list when this might/might not be appropriate; important considerations like insurance risk & access; lessons learnt by practitioners who had already installed panels; likely return on investment periods, and much more.

Identifying carbon emission factors & benchmarks:

We provide a growing number of carbon emission calculators & benchmarks in our software tools.

Many of these rely on emission factors that need updating annually for every country we operate in. You’ll assume responsibility for managing this.

In addition, when we create new reports and calculators, you will lead research and sourcing the best available new factors/benchmarks to use.

Improvement match maker:

As we learn more about each customer/supplier using our services, we are looking to improve how we service them with valuable suggestions or examples to help them reduce their environmental impacts.

To do this, you will lead work with our product team, helping to specify & refine what variables and inputs to base suggestions on, and how to improve the quality of those suggestions.

In practice, this may mean helping to define the factors in algorithms designed by our team to highlight promising good practices to facilities based on characteristics like their location, industry, maturity, targets, and so on. To do this, we will need to find ways to prototype and test ideas.

Experience & Qualifications

  • We’re looking for someone who has demonstrable experience (in-house or as a consultant) in at least one relevant technical area:
    • Energy efficiency projects; carbon reduction projects; carbon footprinting; scoping & delivering engineering projects; working in operations/engineering team of a manufacturing business; scoping & delivering sustainability projects.
  • A degree in environment, engineering, or sustainability is desirable, but not essential (depending on your experience).

Desired Skills & Attributes:

To succeed in this role you will need to:

  • Be driven and enthusiastic to learn.
  • Be able to translate technical knowledge into actionable and easy to read formats.
  • Possess good attention to detail.
  • Have well-developed clear & professional communication skills
  • Be a self-starter with good work ethic, and a can-do attitude
  • Be comfortable conducting research & analysis that gets to outcomes
  • Have an interest in sustainable business, environmental issues, and/or manufacturing

What you get

  • The opportunity to work with global businesses and their suppliers, helping them to significantly reduce their GHG emissions and wider environmental impacts on the planet
  • An opportunity to help build a game changing software company from an early stage
  • A culture of empowerment, with high levels of personal responsibility given from day one
  • The opportunity to work with inspirational colleagues who are highly passionate and motivated by a belief that the work they do positively contributes to a more sustainable future
  • An environment where new ideas and innovation are encouraged and rewarded
