The Indigenous Cadetship Program is an initiative of the CSIRO Indigenous Engagement Strategy which seeks to significantly increase Indigenous employment nationally within CSIRO. Through this strategy, CSIRO aims to enhance the educational, employment, training and career development opportunities for people of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. Indigenous Cadetships may be offered to people of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent who are enrolled for full-time study in a diploma, advanced diploma or degree course. Upon successful completion of the Cadetship, Cadets will be encouraged to apply for positions in CSIRO relevant to their qualification and skills. Location: Adelaide, Alice Springs, Atherton, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Narrabri, Townsville, Perth Salary: A study allowance during periods of full time study + 12 week paid work placement during each year of the cadetship. Reference no: N12/02840 The Ecology Program in CSIRO Ecosystem Sciences is seeking one or more Cadets to join them. Specific areas may include functional, landscape, community, and spatial ecology, fire and restoration ecology, biodiversity assessment and mapping, monitoring, carbon and greenhouse gas dynamics and conservation planning, risk analysis and invasive species research. This research addresses management needs, risk analyses and policy issues and is undertaken in multi-use landscapes across a variety of scales. Tasks will be generally straight forward in the first year of the cadet’s placement but will increase in complexity in subsequent placements over the 3 year degree. Instructions will be provided on what is required, the method/approach and the techniques to be used. Close guidance will be readily available and periodic checks undertaken to assess progress. The cadet/s will be expected to respond professionally and efficiently to requests of their supervisor and to contribute as an effective member of a CSIRO project team. The cadet/s will be provided with a leading researcher as a mentor to guide them through the complexities of working within a large matrix science research organisation. Cadets will be required to be enrolled within a tertiary institution and registered with the Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) under the Department's Indigenous Cadetship Program: http://www.ics.deewr.gov.au Applications close: Friday 21 September, 2012 (11:30pm AEST) How to apply:
