  • The Indigenous Cadetship Program is an initiative of the CSIRO Indigenous Engagement Strategy which seeks to significantly increase Indigenous employment nationally within CSIRO.   Through this strategy, CSIRO aims to enhance the educational, employment, training and career development opportunities for people of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.

    Indigenous Cadetships may be offered to people of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent who are enrolled for full-time study in a diploma, advanced diploma or degree course.  Upon successful completion of the Cadetship, Cadets will be encouraged to apply for positions in CSIRO relevant to their qualification and skills.

    Location: Brisbane or Perth

    Period of Traineeship: Up to 4 years (depending on current year of study)

    Salary:  A study allowance during periods of full-time study + 12 week paid work placement during each year of the cadetship.

    The successful cadet would join the Shelf and Coastal Processes team, located at Floreat in Western Australia. The team works on several projects that are focussed on understanding the ecological dynamics of coastal marine ecosystems, and projects encompass the entire west coast of Australia. The successful candidate will be matched to the appropriate project based on their skills and interests. The specific tasks will depend on the project, but are likely to include laboratory studies or field studies, or a combination of both. The candidate will be expected to contribute as an effective member of the team.

    Cadets will work in a highly supportive environment and be assisted by appropriate mentors to develop their skills, talents, qualifications and future career goals.

    Cadets will be required to be enrolled within a tertiary institution and registered with the Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) under the Department's Indigenous Cadetship Program:  http://www.ics.deewr.gov.au
