 Job Description:

 Due to a constant growth in its natural resource portfolio, GFA’s Africa Department is looking for a motivated NRM consultant joining the Hamburg based team. The NRM consultant will be responsible for project management, acquisition and strategic business development in the technical field of Natural Resource Management.

 GFA believes in the value of developing the individual technical competence of its employees through training on the job, the execution of professional short term missions and studies and the work on technical strategies and concepts. In this way, GFA’s employees also contribute to the technical competence of the company. Therefore, optimism and a deeply rooted interest in the wider field of development assistance are a prerequisite for a successful work as a consultant at GFA.

 Key responsibilities will include:

  - Business development and acquisition in the field of natural resource management (identification, fact-finding, preparation of tenders, networking)

- Technical backstopping and project management (implementation management/financial and technical administration, monitoring and evaluation of projects and studies)

-  Conducting technical short-term consultancy missions in Africa (and other regions) including participation in feasibility and project preparatory studies

- Client and partner management, representation of GFA in conferences, seminars etc.

-  Elaboration of concepts, presentations and contribution to knowledge and quality management.

-  Contribution to GFA publications (journal articles, presentations)

 Qualifications:

-  MSc., Eng., or PhD in Forestry / Tropical Forest Management / Environmental Sciences / Development Economics or related fields

- Minimum 2 - 4 years relevant working experience in the context of development, cooperation and natural resources management (NRM)

-  Familiarity with project planning and evaluation methods,

-  Working experience in developing countries, preferably Africa is a strong asset,

-  Proven ability and willingness to travel extensively to the countries in the region,

- Readiness to work in Africa on long term and short term assignments,

- Proficiency in English and preferably also French; working knowledge of German is desirable

- Strong skills in writing and presentation and advanced proficiency in standard MS Office applications,

-  Other skills: client oriented communication, curiosity, flexibility, pragmatism, improvisation skills, demanding in terms of own working standards, social competence, stress resistance and team player.
