Description of the job

Salary: £24,530 - £27,370

The role/team

Anglian Hydrometry and Telemetry teams provide vital field data which underpins much of the Agency’s statutory responsibilities relating to flood warning and water resources.

We are looking for an experienced person to join the Anglian Hydrometry and Telemetry (Supra-Area) team, based in Peterborough. As part of the team, you'll be responsible for the management of the regional telemetry system to ensure accurate and timely data and information is provided to our customers. A key element of the role is to support the United Kingdom Coastal Monitoring and Forecasting network, which is hosted on the Anglian system.

The job is primarily office based and will involve configuration and management of our Unix-based Swantel system, supporting our field staff and liaising with external service providers and contractors. Participation in a 24/7 standby roster will be required, and you must hold a full UK driving licence as occasional travel may be necessary.

Experience/skills required

You’ll be qualified to degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, or have relevant vocational experience, and demonstrate an aptitude for working with information and communication technology.

Experience or appreciation of the following would be a distinct advantage:

• telemetry systems, outstations, infrastructure, UNIX and databases;

• instrumentation and electronics;

• field-based Hydrometry - data gathering, fault analysis, quality assurance and health and safety;

• working in a customer focussed department;

• our current and future monitoring technology;

• an appreciation of our customers, their structures and systems.

Other key requirements for this job include excellent communication skills and a focus on efficiency, innovation and quality, proficiency in Word, Excel and database management along with a passion for analysis and problem solving.
