The Opportunity

Due to our continued success, we are looking to recruit a Hydrology Technician on a fixed term basis to join our team based in Falkirk.  Reporting to the Hydrologist, you will be responsible for providing field and office based hydrology services to both internal and external clients.  You will primarily be responsible for carrying out hydrological / metrological monitoring on sites.  From this, you will be required to produce technical reports on findings.  A selection of duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Calibration and repair of water quality monitoring equipment.
  • Collection and delivery of laboratory sampling equipment.
  • Manage data requirements by ensuring downloaded and laboratory data are up-to-date.
  • Prepare and provide input into scoping reports and EIA chapters.
  • Provide input into monitoring recommendations, design and data analysis.
  • Liaise with hydrology team to inform of any issues, especially during construction, to ensure that remedial and emergency measures are implemented
  • Liaise with landowners and statutory consultees throughout projects.

Qualifications and Experience

You will be degree qualified to honours level in an engineering, environmental or hydrological discipline; ideally this will be complimented by a post graduate qualification.  It is also expected that you will be a member of or looking to join a relevant professional body such as CIWEM. 

This is an ideal opportunity for a graduate to develop skills in hydrology and associated fieldwork.

You will have knowledge of the hydrological environment and the key processes in this field.  Ideally you will be able to display an understanding of the planning system and Environmental Impact Assessments.  Knowledge of any of the following areas would also be beneficial:

  • Geographical Information Systems
  • Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems
  • Hydrology software including but not limited to WinDES, HEC-RAS, ISIS, FEH

You will be highly meticulous, organised and self-motivated with and ability to work unsupervised to strict deadlines with an often conflicting workload.  You will possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to get on well with other members of the team as well as the general public.

This role involves frequent travel, as such; you will require a full UK driving license.

The position is based our office in Falkirk, moving to Stirling late 2013.
