The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is a leader in the U.S. Department of Energy’s effort to secure an energy future that is both environmentally and economically sustainable. The NREL mission is to develop renewable energy and energy efficient technologies and practices, advance related science and engineering, and transfer knowledge and innovation to address the nation’s energy and environmental goals.
This position supports NREL's hydrogen research in sensors, components, and infrastructure. This work includes the safe operation of a research hydrogen filling station and testing of components in lab settings. Primary functions include test design and setup, operation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and working with pressurized gas systems.
Operate and maintain high pressure hydrogen fueling station for component and system research and vehicle fueling

Mechanical design and implementation of gas handling systems (test fixtures, fittings, valves, piping, safety controls and interfaces, pneumatic interfaces)

Safely run experiments (troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and data collection)
High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Full knowledge of specialized focused support functions. Complete acquaintance with and understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the supported activities, and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.

Proficient in research techniques and practices. Solid communication, interpersonal, project management and customer relations skills.
Pressurized hydrogen system knowledge for design, operation, hardware selection and specification, safety, and storage.
Understanding of electronic signals (V, I, R).
Background in electronic interface protocols (serial RS 232, other).
Proficient in use of LabView.
Knowledge of relevant codes and standards for compressed hydrogen and other flammable gases.
Taking and recording measurements.
Willingness to expand knowledge base.
Ability to work well in a team.
Compressor rebuild experience.
