Human Resources Coordinator

Greenpeace Canada is seeking a bilingual Human Resources Coordinator to plan, manage and coordinate the development and delivery of HR programs, systems and services for Greenpeace Canada, and to provide expert advice to Senior Management on human resources legislation, policies and issues.

Location:  Toronto or Montreal
Reports to: Finance and Operations Director
Salary rate:  $ 52,309 per year

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The Human Resources Coordinator is a key management role that enables Greenpeace to attract, retain, develop and support a highly effective pan-Canadian staff towards achieving our ambitious goals.

Your responsibilities include:

  1. Manage the development, implementation and ongoing management of Greenpeace Canada’s HR programs, policies, procedures and annual budget.
  2. Provide expert advice and guidance on HR policy matters, and implement best practice to attract and retain highly qualified staff with Greenpeace.
  3. Provide support to staff to ensure an efficient recruitment and hiring process for all national job vacancies which adheres to established staffing policies and legal requirements.
  4. Maintain and oversee the orientation process for new permanent and contract employees.
  5. Manage compensation, benefits and job evaluation/classification systems.
  6. Provide information, advice and guidance to managers to ensure employees understand their rights, responsibilities, benefits and entitlements under the Greenpeace HR policies.
  7. Manage the performance management system including providing training, direction and advice to management on performance monitoring and evaluation processes and procedures.
  8. Oversee the effective documentation and retention of Greenpeace personnel files and records.
  9. Adhere to the requirements for conducting union negotiations and if necessary lead the management negotiating team. 
  10. Work with the senior leadership team to coordinate the annual training and development plan. 
  11. Represent Greenpeace Canada in consultation with Greenpeace International or other national offices regarding HR policies, procedures and guidelines.
  12. Other responsibilities as required.     

You possess:

  • Strong leadership and management skills in relation to the planning, development and delivery of HR policies and programs.
  • Proven analytical skills in determining HR program needs.
  • Previous union and labour/employee relations and negotiation experience in the not for profit sector.
  • English and French proficiency – both verbal and written- is essential.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven financial management skills specifically HR budget development and allocation.
  • Previous experience supervising and evaluating staff.
  • Excellent organizational, logistical, strategic planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple projects at one time in a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment.
  • Proven skills in recruiting, interviewing, and orienting new staff.
  • Proven knowledge and experience with HR related legislation.
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management or similar with at least five years of experience in Human Resource Management; CHRP designation preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn and use new software or web based application programs.
  • Meticulous record and file keeping skills.
  • Ability to work on a team as well as independently.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to participate in international meetings and visit other regional offices.
  • A knowledge and passion for environment and social justice issues; knowledge of Greenpeace’s values, mission and overall objectives.
