Job Summary
The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) consists of a charity and a plc, which between them carry out all the work of the organisation. CAT is managed on co-operative principles. Across the two companies there are up to 170 employees at peak season, as well as up to 15 volunteers, who stay for six months.The Human Resources Assistant will provide administrative support in all aspects of HR, including recruitment and induction of staff and volunteers
Responsibilities
In liaison with the Human Resources Administrator·To input to the development and implementation of a Human Resources Strategy in conjunction with relevant management groups.·To respond to HR enquiries from staff.·To assist in the completion of standard HR paperwork as required·To assist with maintaining efficient and effective administrative systems, including liaising with the ICT dept to have relevant information available on the shared directory.·To assist with recruitment administration.·To assist with maintaining appropriate and confidential Personnel files for all employees and volunteers.·To ensure that all staff have correct and current job descriptions.·To liaise with Payroll staff and to provide employee information necessary for the accuracy of the pay roll.·To archive personnel documents.·To assist with induction of new staff in line with CAT’s policies and procedures.·To ensure the Staff Induction procedure is up to date and assist with monitoring and maintaining probation records for all new staff·To ensure the Staff Handbook is up to date and available to all staff·To administer the Long Term Volunteer programme·To maintain records of company decisions relating to HR matters.·General office duties (e.g. filing, photocopying, faxing etc.) as required.·To assist the HR Administrator with projects and other duties as and when required.
Co-operative responsibilities
·To participate in staff rotas as required·Attendance at meetings as required·Compliance with H&S legislation and other policies as agreed by CAT·Completion of timesheets and other documents as required.

·Two years minimum administrative experience ·Excellent and demonstrable interpersonal skills·Good level of numeracy and literacy·Good organisational and time management skills·Good telephone manner·Enthusiastic and positive disposition·Demonstrable good office skills with full computer literacy, including experience of using spread sheets, word processing, data bases, internet and email·Ability to work as part of a team or under own initiative·Ability to work with people at all levels within and external to the organisation·Ability to undertake and tolerance of dealing with routine tasks·Trustworthy with a meaningful understanding of the need for discretion and confidentiality·Interest in, understanding of and willingness to act on environmental issues·Willingness to undertake training·Awareness of Health and Safety issues
·Welsh speaker or willingness to learn·First Aid training·Driving licence·Previous HR experience
