Southern Solar Ltd is an expanding solar energy installation company. We provide a professional service with an emphasis on high quality relationships. Our main work is the installation of solar thermal and solar electric systems for domestic, public sector and commercial clients.
Due to growth we are looking for a capable and well organised Health & Safety / Quality Manager to maintain and develop Health & Safety and Quality management across the company.
Job Description
• Oversee general Health & Safety ( H&S) for Southern Solar • Oversee QM systems and procedures and maintain MCS accreditation • To take responsibility for QMS system, with a view to ISO 9001 accreditation • Take responsibility for implementation of environmental management system • Review existing and implement new H&S policies and ensure most cost effective procedures are being used • Liaise with external H&S adviser • Advise internal staff and champion safe working practices • Prepare and present reports to management on H&S activity • Liaise with other departments to deliver first class H&S standards to employees, customers and contractors • Planning, managing and delivery of H&S training and induction • Implement CDM process where required • To assist in contract negotiations to win CDM qualifying business • Conduct risk assessment and devise method statements • Conduct site visits and inspections to customer sites and Southern Solar premises, including offices and warehouse operations
EXPERIENCE Essential
• H&S expert, preferably from the construction industry • Practical knowledge of onsite electrical safety • Specific and formal H&S and ISO experience and their delivery systems • Ability to take responsibility and pragmatically lead a team of professionals to make the correct H&S decisions • Awareness of the balance needed for legislative compliance and best practice • Ability to conduct audits and monitor all H&S activity and to report thereon • High organisational skills to ensure consistent audit trails • Able to work without supervision and under pressure • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Clean driving license • Able to work a range of hours with some overnight stays where required • Able to audit at heights where required
Desirable • Familiarity with MCS Accreditation • Interest in acquiring specialist qualifications or accreditations • Interest in renewable energy and sustainability • Experience of CHAS assessment and accreditation • Knowledge of PV electric and solar hot water systems
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential • NEBOSH qualifications or working towards • COSHH qualifications
Desirable • 2 A levels at C or above, or similar qualifications relevant to the job description • A relevant 2.2 degree
CHARACTER Essential • Proactive attitude to problem solving • Friendly and outgoing • Methodical
OTHER Essential • Legal right to work in the UK
