Description

Job title - Horticultural Project Officer. based in Dartington, Torbay

Salary: £17,874 per annum

BTCV is the UK’s leading practical conservation charity working with people from all sectors of the community in positive action to improve the environment.

This current project works in partnership with Sanctuary Housing Trust in Torbay on 8 sites, to help facilitate food growing with local residents through weekly events at each site to encourage participation and community working.

As part of its overall housing stock, Sanctuary Housing Trust manages sheltered housing in Torbay for people who are generally over 50 and with sensory, physical or mental health needs. The sites are existing communal areas which have limited green space access, are in built up areas and have only recently been developed for food growing during phase 1 of this project.

BTCV requires a Project Officer to lead horticultural tasks at sites in Torbay, providing advice and guidance in horticulture, building community relationships, providing safety talks and ensuring work is completed safely and to a good standard.

The post holder should have an NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture (or other relevant qualification) and have experience in leading or managing small groups, planning and implementing practical projects and organising, motivating and supporting groups of participants/volunteers.

A full driving licence is required and access to your own vehicle is desirable.

The post is for 12 months, with an end date in January 2013.

Closing date for completed applications is 9am 23/01/12
